Position Overview
The Construction Manager - Offshore is responsible for overseeing all construction activities across fabrication yards and offshore installation sites, ensuring that offshore facilities are built safely, to specification, and on schedule. This role requires extensive experience in managing large-scale offshore construction operations, including jacket fabrication, topsides integration, pipelay, and subsea installation. The cyclical nature of offshore construction and competition from other industries means experienced construction managers are perennially in short supply.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all construction activities across fabrication yards and offshore installation sites for offshore projects.
- Develop construction execution plans, sequencing, and resource loading in coordination with the project schedule.
- Supervise construction supervisors, subcontractors, and craft labour to ensure safe and productive work execution.
- Monitor construction quality and ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and inspection and test plans (ITPs).
- Coordinate with engineering to resolve construction queries, design clarifications, and field change requests.
- Manage construction subcontractor performance, including progress tracking, commercial variations, and back-charge management.
- Plan and execute offshore installation campaigns including heavy lift, float-over, pipelay, and subsea module installation.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with HSE requirements and drive toward zero incident performance.
- Manage construction punch-list close-out, mechanical completion, and pre-commissioning activities.
- Report construction progress, issues, and forecasts to the project management team.
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management
- Certifications: BOSIET/FOET; NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent; First Aid at Work
- Experience: 12–18 years in offshore construction with significant yard and offshore site management experience
- Technical Skills: Offshore fabrication and installation methods; construction planning and scheduling; quality management systems; subcontractor management; HSE management in construction
Preferred
- Experience managing construction across multiple international yards simultaneously
- Involvement in float-over and heavy lift operations
- Knowledge of modular construction and pre-commissioning management
- Familiarity with construction digital tools (4D modelling, progress tracking systems)
