Work Pattern
Onshore with vendor site visits
Reports To
Procurement Manager / Expediting Lead
Position Overview
The Expediting Engineer ensures that purchased equipment, materials, and services are delivered on schedule by monitoring supplier progress, identifying delays, and implementing corrective actions. In the offshore sector where long-lead items and vessel schedules create critical path dependencies, this role is essential for preventing schedule disruption and cost overruns.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain expediting schedules and status reports for all purchase orders within assigned project portfolio
- Monitor supplier manufacturing progress through regular communication, site visits, and milestone tracking
- Identify potential delivery delays early and implement corrective actions including schedule recovery plans
- Coordinate with engineering on design release schedules that impact procurement and manufacturing timelines
- Conduct vendor site visits to inspect manufacturing progress, resolve issues, and verify delivery commitments
- Report expediting status to project management including risk flags, delay forecasts, and mitigation recommendations
- Manage expediting of sub-vendors and sub-contractors within the supply chain
- Coordinate with logistics and quality teams on inspection release, shipping documentation, and transportation arrangements
- Track and report on key expediting metrics including milestone achievement, delay frequency, and recovery success rate
- Support procurement with vendor performance data for pre-qualification and supplier evaluation processes
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related technical discipline
- Certifications: Expediting training certification preferred; quality inspection qualifications advantageous
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in expediting for offshore oil & gas or industrial projects; manufacturing or fabrication environment experience
- Technical Skills: Project scheduling (Primavera P6); manufacturing process knowledge; ERP systems; vendor inspection and quality hold points; progress measurement techniques
Preferred
- Experience expediting subsea equipment (trees, manifolds, umbilicals)
- Knowledge of international fabrication yard locations and capabilities
- Third-party inspection coordination experience
- Multi-vendor, multi-region expediting experience
Market Intelligence
$400–$650/day
Shortage Level: Moderate
Key Skills Gap: Expediting Engineers who can both track schedules AND technically assess manufacturing progress at vendor facilities; the role often defaults to administrative tracking rather than proactive intervention
Regions in Highest Demand: Middle East, Southeast Asia (fabrication hubs), North Sea, Houston (US)
Demand Drivers: Post-COVID supply chain delays requiring stronger expediting discipline; long-lead equipment competition between energy sectors; increasing fabrication in Southeast Asian yards requiring on-ground expediting presence
