Work Pattern
Offshore 28/28 rotation
Reports To
Process Lead / Offshore Installation Manager (OIM)
Position Overview
The Process Engineer provides technical assurance and operational support for all process systems on offshore production facilities, including separation, gas treatment, oil stabilization, water injection, and export systems. This role is critical for maintaining production rates, product quality specifications, and process safety integrity, directly impacting the asset's revenue and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and optimize offshore process operations including separators, compressors, coolers, and treatment systems
- Perform process simulations and engineering calculations to evaluate operational changes and debottleneck opportunities
- Develop and review operating procedures, process limits, and safe operating envelopes
- Support daily production optimization including well routing, chemical dosing, and process parameter tuning
- Conduct process hazard analysis and participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA studies
- Review and approve management of change (MOC) requests for process modifications
- Troubleshoot process upsets and provide technical guidance for upset recovery
- Support process engineering aspects of planned shutdowns and start-ups
- Develop process simulation models using HYSYS, PRO/II, or similar software for operational studies
- Coordinate with onshore process engineering for technical studies and major project support
- Monitor and report on production performance, flaring, and emissions against targets
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering (Master's preferred)
- Certifications: OPITO BOSIET/FOET; Chartered Engineer (CEng) or PE preferred
- Experience: Minimum 8 years in process engineering within offshore oil and gas, with operational/site experience strongly preferred
- Technical Skills: Process simulation (HYSYS, PRO/II, UniSim), separation and gas processing, P&ID interpretation, process control fundamentals, hydrate management, chemical treatment, production reporting
Preferred
- Experience with digital oilfield tools and real-time process optimization
- Advanced experience in gas processing and LNG
- Well performance and flow assurance interface knowledge
- Experience with production chemistry and chemical management
Market Intelligence
$850–1,300/day
Shortage Level: High
Key Skills Gap: Process engineers with genuine offshore operational experience (not just design office) are scarce. The ability to translate simulation results into operational decisions under time pressure is a key differentiator.
Regions in Highest Demand: North Sea, Middle East, West Africa, Brazil, Southeast Asia
Demand Drivers: FPSO operations support, brownfield debottlenecking, production optimization on mature assets, gas development projects, regulatory requirements for process safety management
