Position Overview

The Subsea Commissioning Engineer is responsible for planning and executing commissioning activities for subsea production systems — from pre-commissioning flooding and testing through to first oil. This role demands a combination of engineering rigour and practical offshore execution capability, bridging the gap between design completion and operational handover. Commissioning engineers are the last line of defence before production startup.

Market Intelligence

$800–$1,100/day

Shortage Level: High

Key Skills Gap: Engineers willing and able to work offshore on rotational assignments with the technical depth to troubleshoot complex subsea systems in real-time are in short supply; commissioning is often undervalued in career planning.

Regions in Highest Demand: West Africa, North Sea, Brazil, Middle East

Demand Drivers: Multiple deepwater projects approaching first oil simultaneously; subsea processing commissioning adding complexity; compressed project schedules demanding rapid commissioning execution.
