Work Pattern
Offshore 28/28 rotation / Onshore for land operations
Reports To
Drilling Superintendent / Wells Manager
Position Overview
The Wellsite Supervisor is the operator's on-site representative responsible for overseeing all wellsite operations — including drilling, completion, workover, and P&A activities. Distinguished from the Drilling Supervisor (Company Man) by a broader operational scope that often includes completion and intervention, the Wellsite Supervisor ensures operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the approved programme. This is a demanding rotational role that requires round-the-clock accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise all wellsite operations (drilling, completion, intervention, P&A) as the operator's representative.
- Ensure all operations comply with the approved programme, HSE standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Direct and coordinate service company and contractor activities at the wellsite.
- Manage well control preparedness and response, ensuring crew readiness and equipment functionality.
- Conduct pre-job safety meetings, toolbox talks, and JSAs for all operational activities.
- Monitor operational parameters, track NPT, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Authorise material and service requisitions within delegated financial authority.
- Report daily operations, costs, and forecasts to the onshore operations team.
- Manage wellsite logistics, personnel movements, and emergency response coordination.
- Ensure proper handover between rotational crews and maintain continuity of operational knowledge.
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical preferred); extensive operational experience may substitute.
- Certifications: IWCF Level 4 (Supervisor) — mandatory; BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS; Offshore Medical; H2S Awareness.
- Experience: 10–18+ years in well operations with significant supervisory experience across multiple well types.
- Technical Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of drilling, completion, and workover operations; expert well control capability; strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred
- Experience supervising both drilling and completion operations on the same well.
- Subsea wellhead and tree system familiarity.
- Multi-well campaign supervision experience.
- Digital operations reporting proficiency.
Market Intelligence
$800–$1,300/day
Shortage Level: High
Key Skills Gap: Supervisors with broad operational scope (drilling + completion + intervention) are scarcer than pure drilling supervisors; the willingness to work rotational offshore assignments is a growing constraint as younger professionals seek work-life balance.
Regions in Highest Demand: Middle East, North Sea, West Africa, Australasia
Demand Drivers: Global rig activity requiring experienced wellsite supervision; broadened role scope demanding multi-skilled supervisors; competition from offshore wind industry for rotational supervisory talent.
